President's Message We are heading into the last quarter of school and still have some fun and informative events coming up!

But first, thank you to everyone who attended our Summer Opportunities Fair this past month! We had a record turnout and are looking forward to even bigger and better fair next year. We've now posted information about all the camps in our Facebook group in case you weren't able to make it.

Our next meeting is this Friday, March 6th from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hilltop Conference Center. We've had several parents raise questions and concerns about the new standards based grading system in elementary school, so we invited members of the Blue Valley Curriculum and Instruction team to our meeting to shed some light on the changes this year. Thank you to those who submitted questions ahead of time to help guide our discussion.

This year's Brain Blizzard is on April 4th and there's still time to register! All gifted Blue Valley 7th and 8th graders are welcome. See the flyer below for more information and click here to register.

Also, Robotics Camps registration is open and we still have a few slots open. Check out the information and register here.

We are also excited to host one last evening meeting on April 9th. We are partnering with START (Stand Together and Rethink Technology) to discuss strategies on navigating the impact of technology on our kids and helping them more responsible digital citizens.

We hope to see you at one or all of these events!  Amy Gallentine BVPAGE President Upcoming Meetings and Events:

Summer Opportunities Success

We had a record turnout of vendors and guests at last night's Summer Opportunities Fair and couldn't be more thrilled! Thanks also to the Prairie Star Middle School Early Bird strings group for being our musical guest. They did a great job! And thanks to everyone for spreading the word!

The list of camps is posted on our public Facebook page and will be posted in our archives eventually as well.

Brain Blizzard

If you have a 7th or 8th Grader who loves trivia, Brain Blizzard is a great way for kids to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday morning and get to know other kids in their age group before high school. Teams and individuals are welcome, and a panel of kids will also be on hand to answer questions about gifted in high school.

It's coming up shortly after Spring Break, so register soon!

Robotics Camps

Registration is now open to everyone. Here's the basic information. If you'd like more details, we have that for you here. Thanks in advance for considering our camps. Our instructors love to have your kids, kids love the camps, and gifted education teachers get grants out of the proceeds. It's a win all the way around!

Thank you to everyone who attended our evening meeting this past week focused on executive functioning skills! If you couldn't make it or want to review Diane McLean’s presentation, check out our website or Facebook page for the notes. There are some great tips in there for fostering better communication with your kids that helps lead to more effective strategies.

We have more events coming up quickly that you also won't want to miss. This Tuesday, we are hosting an informal meetup at 9 a.m. at Pilgrim Coffee. Come discuss what you learned from Diane or anything else on your mind! Please also mark you calendar for our annual Summer Opportunities Fair this Thursday, February 6th, from 7p.m. to 8:30p.m at Hilltop. We now have 41 camps different camps, programs, and classes booked, with 13 brand new ones this year! Feel free to bring your kids! Please see the flyer for more information

We are also very close to finalizing a location for our Summer Robotics Camps and we will be sending out an email with that registration information soon. Stay tuned!

We've gotten recent feedback on our Facebook page regarding concerns and confusion surrounding the new Standards Based Grading system in Blue Valley elementary schools. As a result, we've invited members of the Curriculum and Instruction Department to our March 6th daytime meeting so they can answer your questions directly. To help facilitate the discussion as efficiently as possible in the time we have with them, please go to the private BVPAGE Facebook page and submit your questions ahead of time. We have a dedicated thread for it and we welcome your comments!

Registration is now open for this year's Brain Blizzard. It will be on Saturday, April 4th from 10 a.m. to noon at the Corbin Park Scheels training center and is open to 7th and 8th grade Blue Valley gifted students. Registration is $5 per child or free for up to two children if you are a Friend of BVPAGE. See flyer for more information and click here to register today!

We are excited to announce that we are partnering with START (Stand Together and Rethink Technology) for our evening meeting in April to discuss strategies on navigating the impact of technology on our kids and helping them more responsible digital citizens. They have a fantastic presentation filled with great discussion points and practical tips. The meeting is on April 9th at 7 p.m. at Hilltop.

One final note: Thank you also to those who have donated at the door of our evening events this year or joined Friends of BVPAGE so we can secure more great speakers. We appreciate your support!
