Dear families,

Our mission at BVPAGE is to advocate for an enhanced educational experience for gifted students and provide resources and support for their families and educators. This week, our board voted to activate the advocacy arm of our organization in response to the very challenging decisions we now face in terms of choosing which educational plan best suits our children’s needs this fall. On Monday, we plan to reach out to district special education and gifted administrators to present our questions and concerns over the options being offered both in person and virtually. It is our hope to get answers to as many of them as possible and offer BVPAGE as a resource for district officials to consult as they continue to refine their plans.

We wish we could give you more time take your questions but, as we all know, the August 3rd decision deadline is approaching quickly, and we would like to get answers to help you be as informed as possible. We have already compiled a list from the hundreds of comments we’ve received on our Facebook group and via email and phone calls. If you have not yet shared your concerns with BVPAGE, we ask that you please either email us or post on the BVPAGE Facebook page/group with any additional questions by NOON ON SUNDAY (7/26), so we can add them to our list for Monday.

Please note: we are focusing only on questions and concerns that are gifted specific. We strongly encourage you to reach out personally to the Blue Valley hotline with general and health specific questions. That number is: 913-239-4045 and is open from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Thursday. Please also consider contacting board of education members or the county health department.

It is times like this when we are grateful that we can band together as one voice and be heard. Let’s all continue to support each other, no matter which path we choose, and do our best to help our kids be successful.

2019-2020 BVPAGE President

Many of us have questions about what Gifted Education looks like in the new Back to School Plans. Let’s work together to figure out what we’d like know. Join the discussion in the closed BVPAGE FaceBook group. If you aren't a member, ask to join, answer the membership questions, and you will have a response usually within a few hours. Hope to see you all there!

President's Message We are heading into the last quarter of school and still have some fun and informative events coming up!

But first, thank you to everyone who attended our Summer Opportunities Fair this past month! We had a record turnout and are looking forward to even bigger and better fair next year. We've now posted information about all the camps in our Facebook group in case you weren't able to make it.

Our next meeting is this Friday, March 6th from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hilltop Conference Center. We've had several parents raise questions and concerns about the new standards based grading system in elementary school, so we invited members of the Blue Valley Curriculum and Instruction team to our meeting to shed some light on the changes this year. Thank you to those who submitted questions ahead of time to help guide our discussion.

This year's Brain Blizzard is on April 4th and there's still time to register! All gifted Blue Valley 7th and 8th graders are welcome. See the flyer below for more information and click here to register.

Also, Robotics Camps registration is open and we still have a few slots open. Check out the information and register here.

We are also excited to host one last evening meeting on April 9th. We are partnering with START (Stand Together and Rethink Technology) to discuss strategies on navigating the impact of technology on our kids and helping them more responsible digital citizens.

We hope to see you at one or all of these events!  Amy Gallentine BVPAGE President Upcoming Meetings and Events:
