President's Message Dear BVPAGE families, If this letter finds you in the midst of parent teacher conferences, we hope you are having productive and collaborative discussions with your kid(s)' teachers! Seems hard to believe we are almost finished with the first quarter! As a reminder, we DO NOT have a meeting at our usual time this Friday. Instead, we are hosting our first evening meeting of the year on Thursday, October 10th at 7 p.m. at the Hilltop Conference Center. Our speaker is Karen Jordan, a licensed psychologist in Overland Park who specializes in the assessment of gifted children. She will be focusing on tangible takeaways to help manage the wide variety of intensities and anxieties that many of our kiddos navigate on a daily basis. She will address questions like: "What tools can I give my child to navigate the swings between what feels like higher highs and lower lows than other kids?" You won't want to miss it! As part of our new meeting format, please note that our evening sessions now have a $5 fee, paid at the door in cash or check (please try to bring exact change if you can), to help us cover the cost of the facilities and professional speaker. However, PLEASE REMEMBER: This event is FREE to anyone who has joined Friends of BVPAGE or plans to do so before the 10th! It's not too late! Joining Friends of BVPAGE for a voluntary donation of $25 per family earns you free admission into all of our evening meetings for the year, free entry into Brain Blizzard for up to 2 children, and early enrollment in our summer robotics camps. A big THANK YOU to the nearly 30 families who have already joined! Click on the link here to learn more and sign up! In other news, if you were unable to attend our new, one-day SENG session at the end of September, fear not! The new format was well received and we hope to offer another session in the future. Stay tuned! Two other upcoming events to note: Don't forget to register for the annual KGTC conference on October 13th and 14th at K State in Manhattan, KS. There are always amazing speakers and break out sessions aimed at parenting gifted children. Go to KGTC.org for more information on signing up as well as other great resources! Four seats on the Blue Valley School Board are up for election on November 5th. The Blue Valley School Board makes decisions that affect all of our students, including how to use our tax dollars in the budget, setting class size limits, and hiring the superintendent. You can register to vote until October 15th. Click here to find out how. Please continue to give us your feedback or reach out with questions about any of our new changes. I look forward to seeing you at the meeting on October 10th! Amy Gallentine 2019-2020 BVPAGE President
