President's Message

Happy New School Year from BVPAGE! We have new and exciting news to share with you!

First and foremost, a big THANK YOU to all who participated in last Spring's BVPAGE survey. You provided us with a lot of great suggestions and insight and, using that information, we are happy to announce some exciting changes to our organization this year!

From the survey results, we learned that there is a fairly even split between those who want daytime meetings and those who prefer evenings. So, in response, we're going to mix it up a little more this year. We will host three evening meetings, three daytime meetings and, NEW this year - we will be hosting four morning coffee meet ups. These coffee events will be informal chats at a local coffee shop with a more general topic and no speaker. Come chat with board members and other parents who may be experiencing the same situations we are. Times and locations of our first coffee and daytime meeting are below.

Another thing we learned from the survey was your willingness to monetarily support our mission and events, which we deeply appreciate. In case you were not aware, BVPAGE has been fortunate enough the past several years to provide a grant to each individual gifted classroom. This money comes from camp proceeds and summer opportunities fair vendor fees, after covering our basic operating costs. With increased prices for room and equipment rentals, a reduction in the number of weeks we can provide our camp, and our desire to offer more specialty speakers, those grants have started to dwindle.

Therefore, in order to bring you the best programming and continue helping our gifted classrooms, we are excited to introduce a new way for families to support our mission, called Friends of BVPAGE! It’s a voluntary annual donation of $25 per family that not only helps us grow, but also earns you some special perks throughout the year. We will be sending a separate email soon with more details as well as an easy way to sign up and pay.

Also new this year, we will begin charging a small amount for some of our events. Evening speaker events will be $5 per person and Brain Blizzard will now be $5 per student / $20 per team. Our daytime meetings as well as the morning coffees will continue to be provided at no cost. If you join Friends of BVPAGE, ALL of these events will remain FREE of charge.

The final changes we would like to share with you surround two of our more popular annual events. We are thrilled to announce that SENG is returning this fall with a NEW, ONE-DAY WORKSHOP format and location! Please see the flier for more details. Also, we are in the process of developing "Brain Blizzard, Jr" - similar to our current Brain Blizzard offering but designed for younger kids. We hope to have that up and running for the 2020-21 school year.

We are so excited for the changes coming this year and hope you will continue to give us your feedback or reach out with questions as we learn and grow. We are also always looking for volunteers for our events, so please let us know if you’d like to help!

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
